Every January 19th, on Orthodox holiday Bogojavljenje (Epiphany) a swimming race for Cross of Honor is organized in all bigger towns in Serbia.
Usually made out of wood or ice, Cross of Honor is placed 33 meters away from starting line, which symbolizes number of years Christ spent on Earth.
Traditionally, since 1940′s, most courageous and prepared young men, sometimes even in sharp winter conditions, compete for honor and glory only, because there is no material reward for the winner.
In contrast with previous years, winter is milder in Serbia this time, and there is no ice on rivers.
